The Pixel Painter - Hal Lasko

Back when everything was done by hand Hal Lasko, better known as Grandpa, worked as a typographer. His family introduced him to MS Paint around fifteen years ago, and since he suffers from a condition causing blindness in the center of his vision, the computer is the only way he can express his passion for painting. The computer gives the 97-year old man the benefit of magnifying his work enough, compensating for his deteriorating eyesight. He spends up to ten hours a day moving pixels around, creating wonderful computer paintings, and his artwork would be best described as ‘a blend of pointillism and 8-Bit art’. Meanwhile Hal Lasko has his work shown in an art exhibition for the first time.

Desire - Under Your Spell

I don't eat, I don't sleep,
I do nothing but think of you.

You keep me under your spell.

I don't eat, I don't sleep,
I do nothing but think of you.

You keep me under your spell.

Paulius Širvys - Sodžiaus Mergaitė

Nelaimei ar laimei tave pažinau
Mergaite iš tolimo sodžiaus
Ką skyrė likimas- tikrai nežinau
Ką paslėpei tu savo žodžiuos
Laimei ar nelaimei sutikau
Bučiavau- mergaite iš sodžiaus
Laimei ar nelaimei pamilau
Aš tave- mergaite iš sodžiaus
Norėčiau atspėti slapčiausiais mintis
Laimingas su tavimi būti
Keliauti drauge per audras ar naktis
Vis viena- gyvent ar pražūti
Jeigu tu nori- laiškus sugrąžinsiu
Savo širdžiai- mylėt užginsiu
Mergaite duok ranką su meilės ugnim
Tik meilei iš naujo atgimsiu
Teisybę sakyki ir nežaiski manim
Galbūt aš nors kartą nurimsiu

Bingo

Bingo, originally an Italian lotto-like game, has been quite popular in the US since the early 1900s. Meanwhile Bingo is played all over the US – from small curch basements to huge halls that seat thousands. But it’s not all about winning. Since a lot of people seem to like playing Bingo, it’s a great opportunity to socially interact with other people. Although some appear to be quite satisfied, happy and looking forward to the next round of Bingo, other characteres portraied in Andrew Miksys’ pictures seem very quiet, lonley and lost in thought. His portraits almost have a dark and gloomy feel to them, leaving it to the viewer of his images wether anyone is happy at all.

artist Ole Ukena

12,000 toy soldiers fixed to a canvas-like board, forming a peace sign. A bright colored rainbow, a symbol of paradise, seemingly harmless at first, but made of barbwire. Building riddles that await to be solved by the viewer himself, artist, Ole Ukena, creates diverse media works with an intriguing sense of humor.

He draws his inspiration of sources as psychology, philosophy, spirituality, always positioning his themes around subjects as individual vs. collective, identity and transformation as well as the creative potential of failure. Exploring the field of interrelated opposites his message of his recent work manifests itself through the precise choices of medium. He is sometimes poetically narrative or purposefully reduced, binding his work by a common thread of complex simplicity, leading the viewer astray but always lending a hand on the way back.

waiting for a Superman

sometimes I dress up and wait for something exciting to happen

I asked you a question and I didn't need you to reply
Is it getting heavy?
But then I realize, is it getting heavy
Well, I thought it was already as heavy as can be

Is it overwhelming to use a crane to crush a fly?
It's a good time for Superman to lift the sun into the sky
'Cause it's getting heavy
Well, I thought it was already as heavy as can be

Tell everybody waiting for Superman
That they should try to hold on the best they can
He hasn't dropped them, forgot them or anything
It's just too heavy for a Superman to lift

Is it getting heavy?
Well, I thought it was already as heavy as can be

Tell everybody waiting for Superman
That they should try to hold on the best they can
He hasn't dropped them, forgot them or anything
It's just too heavy for a Superman to lift
